Children need to be potty trained for K3 and Pre-K classes.
A potty trained child is a child who can do the following:
1.Be able to TELL the adult they have to go potty BEFORE they have to go. They must be able to say the words “I have to go potty” BEFORE they have to go.
2.Be able to pull down their underwear and pants and get them back up without assistance.
3.Be able to wipe themselves after using the toilet.
4.Be able to get off the potty by themselves.
5.Be able to wash and dry your hands.
6.Be able to go directly back to the room without directions.
7.Be able to postpone going if they must wait for someone who is in the bathroom or if we are outside and away from the facility.
St. Joseph's mission is to prepare children from a young age for a lifetime of learning. Our schedule matches the local county school system, observing holidays, seasonal breaks, and professional development days.
Each classroom utilizes an app for parent - teacher communication. Teachers only have their phones during breaks and lunch. Please call the school for any urgent issues.
Children who are ill should not attend preschool. St. Joseph CDC observes the standards set by the Alabama Department of Human Resources for ill children. The most common standards for exclusion are:
1. Illness that prevents the child from participating in child care activities,
including outdoor play.
2. The illness results in a greater need for care than teachers can
provide without compromising the health, safety and supervision of the other children.
3. Oral temperature of 101 or armpit temperature of 100.
4. Symptoms and signs of possible severe illness such as lethargy, abnormal breathing, uncontrollable diarrhea, 2 or more vomiting episodes in 24-hours. If a child becomes ill while in our care, we will contact the parent immediately. We will care for the child apart from the other children with proper supervision and give extra attention to hand washing and sanitation practices. Parents need to pick up children within 1 hour of notification. In the event of severe illness or injury, or if a parent fails to pick up their child within a reasonable amount of time, St. Joseph CDC may call for an ambulance at the parent’s expense. If a child is sent home sick from our program, they may not
return for 48 hours and the child is symptom free for 24-hours.
